Ending the year in Biology with dissections!

Thank you to graduates, Mallory Henert and Ethan Vogeler, for their participation in the local Memorial Day program. These students earned the American Legion Post #345 award in recognition of their Honor, Courage, Leadership, Scholarship, and Service earlier this spring.

Join us this Wednesday evening for the AFC 8th grade Promotion ceremony.

On Tuesday, May 21st, the Junior class took a trip to the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center. Throughout the tour, students explored various primary sources, including an authentic railroad car. To conclude, students watched a speaker who was a survivor of the Holocaust. It was an eye-opening experience that really deepened students' understanding of the Holocaust.
What the students are saying:
"It was amazing to hear a first-hand account of Nazi Germany and a families escape from a Holocaust Survivor. "
"It was eye-opening to learn about other genocides around the world in the Genocide exhibit."
"The exhibits in the museum were engaging and informative."
"It was neat to see the inside of an actual train car from the time period."
"I liked that they had all of the big ideas and small details that really pieced together the whole story."
"It was nice that it was organized as a timeline; it really helped me visualize the entirety of the Holocaust."

Feel good by doing good! In-district incoming freshmen can sign up for the Impact Program by September 1 to earn up to three years of tuition and fees at Sauk Valley Community College!

This past week, the 7th- 12th grade Band and Choir had their spring concert. Under the direction of Ms. Daly, this group has grown tremendously.

In case you missed it, we had fun on the baseball diamond last night.

Exciting things are happening.... a handful of seniors are working on repainting the map at the grade school during their give back day. You'll have to check it out today after school.

Monday night, upcoming 7th and 9th-grade students attended Orientation at the Jr/Sr High School. Pathway TA students ran informative sessions in preparation for the transition to 7th and 9th grade. Presenters from SVCC attended to share about the IMPACT program, where 9th-grade students can earn free tuition through volunteering in our community. Thank you to the FFA Alumni, IMPACT, Volleyball, and Football programs for having informative tables for students to visit to investigate the opportunities available here!

Congratulations to Mallory Henert for receiving the Dekalb Agricultural Accomplishment Award! The Dekalb Award recognizes one student in every FFA chapter who shows a passion for and a commitment to agriculture, scholarship, and a good work ethic. Mallory has worked diligently in the AFC FFA for the past six years with accomplishments including serving as Chapter President, receiving her State FFA Degree, and recognized as a state finalist in her Discovery area for being the manager of the Farmers Market. Well deserved, Mallory! #AFCFFA
