Congratulations to Kyle Goldman for being selected as our second Raider of the Week for the week of September 20th. Kyle persevered during a particularly challenging art assignment!
This year Raider of the Week is a little different. Students are recognized for being helpful, being respectful, improving, trying hard, etc. Several students will be nominated throughout the week and one person is drawn at random. Kyle is our first lucky winner. In addition, we will be recognizing an Athlete of the Week separately.

Ashton-Franklin Center High School would like to thank the Lee County Sheriff's Office and Corporal Seeley for his informative presentation to our driver education class today. Corporal Seeley's topic was, "Drive Safe, Stop Safe."

What better way to begin studying the amazing, talented artist Jackson Pollock, than by creating a piece of art in his style!?! In case you don’t know, Jackson Pollock was an American artist from the early 20th century who was famous for splatter painting, and eventually became one of the founders of the abstract expressionist movement. This movement was the first to begin independent of Europe and shift the center of the art world from Paris to NYC.
High school art students had an opportunity today to take part in creating a group splatter painting measuring 48” x 120”. The finished works are at the end of the video and will be on display in the hallway across from the junior high gym very soon. (If they ever dry🤣)
Disclaimer: I did mention to the children that they might not want to wear their best clothes today, I also gave them an option to opt out, gave them an option to wear a lab coat, and gave them an option to cover the front half of their person with a piece of cardboard. These were all to protect themselves from getting covered with paint. They made their choice.

Kindergarten read a book today called "Little Green" about a green hummingbird that makes different lines with his flight. Afterwards they were given wiki sticks (wax covered string) to practice making the lines that little green flew. When they were done they used the sticks to practice writing their names and then they made pictures, jewelry and sculptures. I even had my portrait made!
