Successful night out in the diamonds. Great way to start the season Raiders!

Congratulations to our February Students of the Month!

Check out baseball and softball at their home opener TODAY against Earlville. Both games start at 4:30!

This week at AFC (3/11 - 3/16)

The AFC Scholastic Bowl Team wrapped up their season this Saturday competing in the Warren Sectional. The Raiders faced some tough competition with losses to Riverdale and Winnebago, but they got to end the day on a high note with a 290-260 win against Morrison. Every member of the team answered at least one toss up question and we could not be more proud of our students for advancing to sectionals for the first time in school history! AFC ends their season with an outstanding record of 31-11. We would also like to give special recognition to our seniors Lauren Stone and Ethan Vogeler for their dedication to the program over these past four years!

REMINDER! Anyone entering 1st - 8th grade next year interested in Jr. Tackle football, come on out to the meeting this Sunday (3/10) in the high school gym.

Good luck to our Academic Bowl Team as they compete in the Warren Sectional tomorrow!

Join us at the FFA Banquet on March 13, at 6 pm in the Junior High gym. A main dish will be provided - please bring table service. Junior High please bring chips. Freshmen and Sophomores bring a side dish. Juniors and Seniors bring dessert. Community are welcome to attend! #AFCFFA

Thank you to AFC Alumni Levi Meurer at Crestview Showpigs for hosting the Animal Science class. Students got to see biosecurity practices in action and learn more about the swine industry!

One of the best parts of running a choice-based classroom is having students inspire other students! This is Mallori (3rd) being inspired by a painting another student, Navaeh (6th) completed a couple of years ago.

Last night, AFC FFA members Logan O'Brien and Kate Viall competed at the District Proficiency Judging. In order to make it there, the students had to advance from the Section level. Logan's record book is Landscape Management for his work with Warner Landscaping and Kate's record book is Fruit and Nut Production, where she tends to an apple orchard. Both interviewed with a panel of ag teachers and industry professionals. Great job on your accomplishment! #AFCFFA

I've got some catching up to do! Help me in congratulating our Raiders of the week for the past few weeks - Aaron, Nivea, and Ethan. Aaron wrapped up the basketball season with continuous hard work, a positive attitude, and being a great teammate all around. Nivea has wowed us with her fantastic artwork. She currently has artwork in two area art shows! Ethan was nominated for his continued efforts in Scholastic Bowl. He is a vital part of the team who, by the way, are REGIONAL CHAMPS! We are so proud of these three individuals for their attitudes, efforts, and abilities.

Congratulations to the AFC Academic Team for winning regionals last night! AFC had a small lead for most of the championship match, but Dakota tied the match on the last question. A big shout out to Lauren Stone for buzzing in on the tie-breaker question and leading AFC to a 360-340 victory. Other highlights of the night included a 410-170 win against Oregon in the semi-final match and Ayden Willstead setting the school record both for season scoring and all-time scoring for AFC! With the two victories last night, the Raiders improved their record to 30-9. AFC will continue play this Saturday in the Warren Sectional with matches against Winnebago, Riverdale, and Morrison.

Mrs Hurt stopped by WACC today to visit AFC students in their trade classes. Allied Health students are currently working on their phlebotomy certification and have a required number of “pokes” they must get in to become certified. Mrs Hurt volunteered to have a few of the AFC students practice blood draws when she stopped in. Our AFC students shined with their skill, maturity and dedication to their certification process. We are thankful for the opportunity to send AFC students to WACC where so many of them find a passion for their future trade.

Last Friday, AFC juniors and seniors visited NIU to learn more about their academic programs, the admissions process, and received a campus tour. Students also got to have lunch with AFC grads and learn more about their experience at NIU.

Best of luck to our High School Academic Bowl team as they travel to Amboy tonight for Regionals! Check out the schedule below if you'd like to go cheer them on!

This Week at AFC (March 4 - March 9)

SAVE THE DATE! The evening of May 2, the Elementary School will be having a "Specials Showcase" (working title) to show off and display the amazing talents of our K-4 kiddos. More info coming soon, but here is a preview: Braelynn recently completed this after seven art classes, doesn't this look amazing? The art curriculum this year is focusing on student choice, and it was Braelynn's choice to create a pencil drawing of her dog while others worked on their own ideas. Please plan to attend
