The AFC high school boys' basketball team is hosting a basketball camp for boys going into 3rd-8th grade. Dates of the camp are June 21-24. 3rd-5th grade will have camp 12:30-2:00 and 6th-8th grade will have camp 2:00-3:30. The high school girls' basketball team has open gyms on Monday and Thursdays through June. Open gym is from 5:00-7:00 pm and is open to current 8th-11th grade girls wanting to participate or thinking of participating in basketball next school year.

This Wednesday, 5/19, the Lee County Health Department will be offering a COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic for children 12-17 years of age. The clinic will be held locally at the Ashton Lion's Center from 2:30 pm until 5:00pm. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Parents of incoming 2nd-5th grade students please read below for information on FREE online tutoring from NIU this summer:
Northern Illinois University’s Jerry L. Johns Literacy Clinic is offering free online tutoring in reading this summer for students entering second through fifth grades.
Tutoring sessions begin in late May, opening with an evaluation of each child’s reading ability, and continue through late July with instruction tailored to each child’s specific needs.
Individualized instruction is delivered in 30-minute sessions by NIU students completing their bachelor’s or master’s degrees in education. Children should have access to tablets or computers (not cellphones) in a quiet area of their homes.
Faculty from the department of NIU College of Education’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction supervise the tutors, who are known as “reading stewards” at the clinic with a 60-year legacy of helping children to improve their literacy.
